In the middle of their UK tour with You Me At Six, we caught up with Mayday Parade’s bassist Jeremy Lenzo to talk about their new album.
You’re back in the UK with your old tour mates You Me At Six, is it good to be back?
Of course! The You Me at Six guys are some of our favorite dudes, so it’s nice to be playing with them again. We have also made new friends with the other bands on the tour.
You’ve toured together in the past. Whose decision was it to get back together again?
I think it was something we both wanted to do. We love them as people and I expect the feel the same way. So we just wanted to your together as much as possible.
Earlier this month you released your new self-titled album here in the UK. Can you tell us a bit about it?
This album is something we are all proud of. The last album “Anywhere But Here” had a lot of label influence and producer influence, so with this one we decided to say screw that, we want to do what we want to do, and did it our way. I think it turned out great, and it’s definitely has an older Mayday sound.
Were you anticipating the chart success that you received with it in the US?
Honestly, we weren’t sure how it would do. We were just focused on making something we were happy with. If everyone else enjoyed it, that was just a plus.
What’s the significance of the eponymous title?
With this album we felt we had the most control of anything we have done. So we decided to call it Mayday Parade, because it really shows who we are. I feel like it says to the listener, hey, this is us.
You’re back in May for Slam Dunk for the second year running. Are you looking forward to it again this time around, and are there any bands there you’re particularly excited to see?
I’m just excited to be there! I’m going to try to watch as many bands as I can, but I can’t say there is a favorite im looking forward to see.
What’s next for Mayday Parade in 2012?
We have Warped Tour coming up this summer, and a lot more overseas dates. They should all be announced soon.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I just want to say thank you to all our fans, we appreciate all your support and wouldn’t be here without you!
